List of Filipino Saints, Blesseds, and Servants of God


This page is a list of Filipino Saints, Blesseds, Venerables, and Servants of God recognized by the Roman Catholic Church. Majority of these men and women of religious life were born, died, or lived within the Philippine Country.

The Roman Catholic faith has already existed since the country's earliest history. Indeed, Ferdinand Magellans' expedition of 1521 included Catholic priests and missionaries among the crew. In fact, some Catholic missionaries became one the explorers of the native land's while converting and persuading the Indios towards Christianism. Through because of the Spanish colonization that had been begun by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, they introduced Christianity as settling within Cebu. Now, Cebu is a well known Catholic Island.

Catholics continue to contribute to Filipino religious life up to the present day. Consequently, several these Filipino Catholics have been considered for sainthood over the past centuries. Most of these Catholic saints-to-be were from the 20th Century and so on. Few only of those, in the days of the Spanish era within the Philippines founded the way of sanctity.

The very first Filipino saint canonized was Lorenzo Ruiz, a married lay Dominican and member of the Rosarian Confraternity in dedication to Our Lady. Ruiz died as a martyr of faith, during the persecutions at the Nagasaki, Japan were the Kingdom organized an anti-clericalism. Lorenzo Ruiz was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Manila, and without any further a do, was canonized at St. Peter's Square, Vatican City along with his Companion Martyrs in 1987. And after 25 years later, the title of a saint was followed by another martyr, named Pedro Calungsod, who was canonized on October 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI.

In Some sources, Diego Luis de San Vitores, a Jesuits Missionary is being included within the list of Filipino Saints. Through because of his long life living on the Philippines, and being accompanied by Pedro Calungsod in his mission at Guam. As well as that his cause for Canonization was petitioned by the Archdiocese of Manila next with Archdiocese of Agana.
