List of Australian treaties

This is a list of treaties that the Government of Australia has entered into since federation in 1901.

Currently lists active treaties only. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Australia) in conjunction with the Australasian Legal Information Institute, has published an online Australian Treaties Database. The list below is obtained and updated from that list.

The first treaties were signed by the United Kingdom, on Australia's behalf, even after federation. The first significant Australian independently signed treaty was probably the 1922 New Zealand trade agreement, and after World War II, Australia was signing treaties exclusively on its own behalf.

Australia has been an active member of the International community for over a century, so the following list provides a good view on common International treaties, and their development.

No substantial treaty has been entered into between the government of Australia and Indigenous people in Australia, and it is claimed that Australia may be the only Commonwealth country that does not have one. Some prior treaties exist in pockets, such as Batman's Treaty, however these are not substantial government treaties.

The absence of an extradition treaty does not, in theory, prevent an arrest and/or extradition either to or from that country.

Bilateral treaties concerning topics of commerce, trade, and arbitration:

Treaties prior to federation signed by the British Empire, adopted by Australia, and active on or after federation:

Federation to after World War I
