Liga del Sur is a local football league in Argentina. It comprise the partido of Bahía Blanca and the city of Punta Alta, in Buenos Aires Province.
It was founded on 18 June 1908. This is the oldest local league in Argentina. But it was not the first league founded on the country, because the Liga Rosarina de Fútbol existed between 1905 and 1930. The founding clubs are Porteños Sud, Argentino, Bahía Blanca and Estudiantes. In subsequent years, joined the clubs Sud (1909), Pacífico (1909), Liniers (1909), Olimpo (1911), San Martín (1912), Comercial (1916), Huracán (1916), Dublin (1916), Libertad (1917), Peñarol (1918), Estudiantes (1918), Independiente (1918) and Villa Mitre (1925).
During this period, only a combined with league players was authorized to participate in national tournaments, because the member clubs was not affiliated to the AFA. In 1926, Liga del Sur won Copa Progreso, Copa Caronti and a provincial championship. Also, the league obtained the third place in a national tournament. The combined won again the provincial championship in 1929. Posteriorly, Liga del Sur divided, causing Asociación Bahiense de Fútbol (1934–1937) and Liga Sureña (1944–1946). In both situations there were two championships simultaneously. From 1908 the only time there was no champion (considered vacant) was in 1947. In 1958, The league combined played and won a match with Argentina national football team for 4–3. In 1961, Liga del Sur won Copa Doctor Adrián Beccar Varela and participated in Campeonato Sudamericano de Clubes one year later.
