Lewis and Clark Community College

Lewis and Clark Community College is a community college in the St. Louis Metro-East region in Godfrey, Illinois. The college serves 15,000 credit and non-credit students annually.

The two-year higher education institution has eight campuses throughout the region, which includes a training center, two community education centers, a river research center and a humanities center.

The main campus is located in Godfrey, Illinois on the grounds of the former Monticello College, a women's finishing school. Established in 1838, the last Monticello class graduated in 1971 and the first L&C co-ed class began in 1970. Many of the original buildings are still used, and a gymnasium, math and science complex and state-of-the-art nursing building have been added since. The N.O. Nelson campus (named after N.O. Nelson, founder of the village of Leclaire, Illinois) is located in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Lewis and Clark is the first and only community college campus to operate a nurse managed intercollaborative practice clinic to help underserved members of the community receive affordable healthcare. The Lewis and Clark Family Health Clinic was named one of three national winners of the prestigious 2010 MetLife Foundation Community College Excellence Award, along with a $50,000 grant, in the spring of 2010.

Lewis and Clark has made a strong commitment to sustainability, and has a Climate Action Plan to reach carbon neutrality by 2058.

In October 2010, the college, in conjunction with the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center, the University of Illinois and the Illinois Natural History Survey dedicated a state of the art, LEED Gold Certified river research facility, the Jerry F. Costello Confluence Field Station, along the Mississippi River, just south of the Melvin Price Locks and Dam in East Alton, Illinois.
