Leola is a small town in, and the county seat of, McPherson County, South Dakota, United States. It was founded on May 1, 1884, and named for Leola Haynes, daughter of one of the town's founders. The population was 457 as of the 2010 census. The town occupies an entirely rural area, and businesses and services include a grocery store a gas station-garage, restaurants and bars, a bank, a post office, a hotel, several small businesses (including farming supplies and equipment) and shops, grain elevators, local police and fire departments, and the county's public schools. The town is administered by a mayor-council form of government.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.73 square miles (1.89 km2), of which, 0.72 square miles (1.86 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.

As of the census of 2010, there were 457 people, 209 households, and 125 families residing in the city. The population density was 634.7 inhabitants per square mile (245.1/km2). There were 258 housing units at an average density of 358.3 per square mile (138.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, and 3.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.0% of the population.
