Lemon Drop Kid (foaled May 26, 1996) is a Champion American Thoroughbred racehorse.
He is among many stakes-winning Thoroughbreds to be descended from Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Lemon Drop Kid is out of the mare Charming Lassie. Kingmambo is his sire, himself a son of Champion sire Mr. Prospector and out of the great mare Miesque.
Lemon Drop Kid played the spoiler to Charismatic's 1999 U.S. Triple Crown run, winning the Belmont Stakes that year by catching the frontrunning Charismatic in the homestretch. Lemon Drop Kid followed up with a win in the important Grade I Travers Stakes. In 2000, he won several major Grade I races and earned U.S. Champion Older Male Horse honors.
Lemon Drop Kid currently stands at stud at Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky, where he commands US $35,000 for a live cover breeding resulting in a foal standing & nursing. His first crop of foals in 2005 produced three stakes winners. His second crop in 2006 produced three more stakes winners, including the filly Lemons Forever, the longshot winner of the 2006 Kentucky Oaks. In 2009, his daughter Santa Teresita (horse) won the Grade I Santa Maria Handicap.
