Lee is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. It was incorporated in 1832. The community was named for Stephen Lee, an early settler. The population was 922 at the 2010 census. Lee has been home to Lee Academy since 1845.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.77 square miles (103.00 km2), of which, 38.67 square miles (100.15 km2) of it is land and 1.10 square miles (2.85 km2) is water.
Lee is about 10 miles (16 km) from Interstate 95 and the same distance from Lincoln.
As of the census of 2010, there were 922 people, 356 households, and 262 families residing in the town. The population density was 23.8 inhabitants per square mile (9.2/km2). There were 546 housing units at an average density of 14.1 per square mile (5.4/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 89.9% White, 1.8% African American, 0.8% Native American, 6.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.8% of the population.
There were 356 households of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.6% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 26.4% were non-families. 21.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.65.
