Laurel Hubbard (born 1978) is a transgender weightlifter from New Zealand.
Hubbard is the child of Dick Hubbard, former Mayor of Auckland City and founder of Hubbard Foods.
Competing as Gavin Hubbard, before her gender transition, she was a junior 105kg+ New Zealand record holder with snatch 135kg, clean&jerk 170kg, total 300kg, until her record was surpassed by David Liti.
She then became Olympic Weightlifting New Zealand's Executive Officer. Subsequently she transitioned to female, becoming Laurel Hubbard.
At the 2017 Australian International & Australian Open in Melbourne, she competed at the heaviest 90kg+ category, winning the gold medal with a 123kg snatch and 145kg clean & jerk, for a total of 268kg at a bodyweight of 131.83kg. She thus became the first trans woman to win an international weightlifting title for New Zealand. Although Hubbard met eligibility requirements to compete, her win sparked controversy, with some other competitors claiming the competition was unfair.
