The Landesliga Schleswig-Holstein will be the new sixth tier of the German football league system and the second-highest league in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, supplanting the Verbandsligen at that level in the state.
The Landesliga will be launched in 2017 as part of realignments in the league system of Schleswig-Holstein and to solve the problem of many teams promoted to the Verbandsliga ending up relegated or withdrawn after one season.
The league is divided into two divisions, Schleswig (north-west) and Holstein (south-east), and clubs promoted to or relegated from it will be assigned to a division based on geographical proximity, a practice called "flexible game operation" (German: flexible Spielbetrieb).
The league will be formed by 2 groups of 16 clubs each, which have played in the following leagues in 2016–17:
Teams placed 13th to 18th (6 clubs)
Teams placed 2nd to 7th (6 each, 12 in all)
Teams placed 2nd to 8th (7 each, 14 in all)
