Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering (LDCE or LD), located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It was established in 1948 by Kasturbhai Lalbhai, and is named after his father Lalbhai Dalpatbhai. It is administered by the Department of Technical Education Government of Gujarat. The campus has 14 departments, offices, 6 hostel blocks(A-F), and library, with 64,565 sq. meter or 16 acre built-up area.It is affiliated with Gujarat Technological University (GTU) since 2008.
The institute was established in 1948 with a donation of Rs. 25 lacs and 31.2 hectares of land by the textile magnate Sheth Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai, hence the college was named Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering. The institute started with 75 students in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical undergraduate programs, and was affiliated to Bombay University. From 1950 until the formation of the Gujarat Technological University it was affiliated to Gujarat University.
In June 1955, admission seats were increased to 150, which were further increased to 300 in 1957. From June 1963, Degree and Diploma granting institutions were separated administratively. A postgraduate program in Electrical Engineering was introduced in 1954. A postgraduate course in Mechanical Engineering was started from June 1963 in the area of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning. A postgraduate course in Civil Engineering was introduced in June 1970 in Soil Engineering, Structural Engineering and in Public Health Engineering in June 1972.
Masters Programs in Computer Aided Structural Analysis and Design and Water Resources Management were introduced in 1986.
The institute is All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved.
The institute has six hostel blocks to provide accommodation for 750 students. There are two mess in the hostel campus which are managed by students themselves.
The campus has offices, hostels, and residences of the Principal, rector and wardens. The plinth area of college and hostel buildings admeasures 45,220 sq.m. and 12,556 sq.m. respectively. The coordinates are 23°02′06.12″N 72°32′46.99″E / 23.0350333°N 72.5463861°E
