The Lake Worth Monster is a legendary monster of Lake Worth, just outside Fort Worth, Texas.
Reports of sightings by local citizens describing "a half-man, half-goat, with fur and scales" in July 1969 led to the belief that a mysterious creature lived in Lake Worth in Texas. Newspapers reported the alleged sightings, including one man who claimed the creature landed on his car after jumping out of a tree, and others who claimed the creature threw an automobile tire at them. Newspapers also published a photograph alleging to be of the monster. Local Police investigated the claims, but reported they could find no evidence of the monster in the Lake Worth and Greer Island area.
Contemporary reporters say some witnesses suspect they had been subject to a prank. They also say they've received anonymous letters from people confessing their role as hoaxers. Reports of the monster ceased when school resumed, which suggests that hoaxes were carried out by high school students.
The annual Lake Worth Monster Bash held in October began on the 40th anniversary of the 1969 reports.
