Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn (Kyrgyz: Жусуп Баласагын атындагы Кыргыз Улуттук Университети) is a national university of Kyrgyzstan located in the capital city of Bishkek.

Kyrgyz National University is named after Yusuf Balasaghuni (Kyrgyz: Жусуп Баласагын). It is the oldest higher education institution in the republic. It currently has departments for 54 specialisations, with approximately 22,000 students (As of 2010) and 1000 teachers (As of 2007).

On 25 October 1925, the Kyrgyz Institute of Education was founded to address issues with a lack of teaching staff in the republic. In 1928, this changed to become the Kyrgyz Pedagogical College, which was reformed again in 1932 into the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical College. In 1951, the Government of Kyrgyzstan formed the country's first university on the foundations of the pedagogical college, Kyrgyz State University. The number of faculties in the university grew over the years, until in 1993 it was awarded national status, as Kyrgyz State National University. Finally, in 2002, the university took its present name, as decreed by the president of the republic.

In 1982, the university was awarded the Soviet Union's Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

The current Rector is Prof., Dr. Iskender Isamidinov.

The previous Rector was Professor, Doctor of Political Sciences Aalybek Akunov (2010-2011.)

Some other famous rectors include academics Begimaly Jamgyrchinov, Salmoorbek Tabyshaliev, Kaiyp Otorbaev and Usen Asanov.
