Kilvelur is a panchayat town in Nagapattinam district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
It is 12 km east of Tiruvarur, 12 km west of Nagapattinam and 6 km west of Sikkal, a famous Murugan shrine.
Akshyalingaswamy temple glorified by Muthuswami Dikshitar is situated here.
As of 2001[update] India census, Kilvelur had a population of 7404. Males (3694) constitute 50% of the population and females (3791) 50%. Kilvelur has an average literacy rate of 73%. Kilvelur is part of Kilvelur (SC) assembly constituency.
