Khanaqin District (Kurdish: Xanaqîn) is a disputed territory in Northern Iraq. Currently within Sulaymaniyah Governorate of Iraqi Kurdistan, prior to 1991 it lay within Diyala Governorate of Iraq.
The Alwand River runs through Khanaqin District before joining the Diyala River.
The district population was estimated to be 175,000.
