Kearney County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,489. Its county seat is Minden. The county was formed in 1860. It was named after Fort Kearny, which in turn was named after Brigade General Stephen W. Kearny.

Kearney County is part of the Kearney, NE Micropolitan Statistical Area.

In the Nebraska license plate system, Kearney County is represented by the prefix 52 (it had the fifty-second-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 516 square miles (1,340 km2), of which 516 square miles (1,340 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (0.2%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6,882 people, 2,643 households, and 1,902 families residing in the county. The population density was 13 people per square mile (5/km²).
