Kathleen A. Marchione is an American politician currently serving as a State Senator from New York's 43rd district. A Republican, she has previously served as the Saratoga County Clerk from 1997 through 2013.

Marchione first entered public service at the age of 25, serving as the town clerk in her hometown of Halfmoon. She subsequently served as a town supervisor there, and later as the clerk of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors. She won a 1997 special election to become Saratoga County Clerk following the resignation of Rosemarie Corbett, who was accused of stealing funds. She was subsequently elected to a full term in 1998, and she won re-election every four years thereafter until her election to the State Senate. In 2007, she was chosen as the President of the New York State Association of County Clerks (NYSACC). In her leadership role with the NYSACC, Marchione spoke out against Gov. Eliot Spitzer's 2007 plan to allow undocumented immigrants to obtain driver licenses; Spitzer withdrew the proposal under heavy pressure. In 2009, Marchione led a group of New York county clerks to oppose a plan to require the replacement of new license plates beginning in 2010.

Marchione challenged incumbent Republican State Senator Roy McDonald in a Republican primary held on September 13, 2012. Marchione derided McDonald as lacking a consistent conservative voting record, specifically his votes in favor of the Marriage Equality Act and Governor Andrew Cuomo's tax plan in 2011. When she announced her campaign, Marchione said, "'I stand far from where [Sen. McDonald has] been voting and I believe people in our district are looking for a consistent conservative voice... If they aren't, they won't vote for me.'"

Despite being "significantly" outfundraised, Marchione defeated McDonald in the primary by 99 votes out of 14,579. The Albany Times Union called the race "a reminder that a solid portion of the Republican base remains uncomfortable with same-sex marriage, and that grass-roots insurgents are at least an even match for the party's establishment candidates." Marchione won the November general election with 47% of the vote, defeating Democrat Robin Andrews (37%) and McDonald (who remained on the Independence Party line and received 16% of the vote).
