Kate and Laura Mulleavy

Rodarte is a brand of clothing and accessories founded by Kate and Laura Mulleavy.

Rodarte has received a number of industry awards since the line's inception in 2005. The sisters have also collaborated with Gap and Target on limited edition pieces.

Kate and Laura Mulleavy are American designers and the founders of the fashion label Rodarte.

The sisters were born to Victoria Rodart and William Perry Mulleavy. Their mother is of Mexican-Italian ancestry and their father is of Irish descent.

Both sisters attended the University of California, Berkeley with Laura studying English literature and Kate studying art history. After graduation in 2002 the sisters returned home where they spent the intervening years saving up twenty thousand dollars in order to create a capsule collection.

The label Rodarte is the original Spanish pronunciation and spelling of their mother's maiden name, "Rodart". After their initial collection of just 10 pieces, the Mulleavys appeared on the cover of Women's Wear Daily and had a meeting with U.S. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

In 2010 they collaborated with costume designer Amy Westcott on some of the costumes for the movie Black Swan.

In May 2015 the sisters announced that they had written a film script entitled Woodshock which was purchased by distribution company A24.

The Mulleavy sisters are UC Berkeley graduates from Aptos, California. They both credit their West Coast upbringing as a major source of inspiration for their collections. The natural American landscape is of particular inspiration to the sisters. The label "Rodarte" is the original Spanish pronunciation and spelling of their mother's maiden name, "Rodart." After their initial collection of just 10 pieces, the Mulleavys appeared on the cover of Women's Wear Daily and had a meeting with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
