Kamasutra 3D is a 2013 Indian English-language 3D erotic drama film written and directed by Rupesh Paul and starring Milind Gunaji. At the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the film was screened for the Cannes delegates.Sherlyn Chopra was initially cast in the lead and starred in the 2013 trailer, but in August 2016 told media that she wasn't involved with the project anymore.
Kamasutra 3D was in the contention list of the 86th Academy Awards of 2013, with selection in the three categories – Best Motion Picture, Original Score and Original Song. The results were announced on 16 December 2013 by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on its official website.
Kamasutra 3D is produced under the house of Rupesh Paul Productions Limited and presented by G J Entertainments. The story has been written by the director. The film is co-produced and designed by Sohan Roy, and Dr George John is the executive producer.
The film was announced at Cannes Film Festival 2012, by Rupesh Paul- the director of the film, after the premiere of his movie, Saint Dracula 3D, at the festival. The first look of Kamasutra 3D, was unveiled at NFDC's film bazaar on 22 November 2012 which was held on the sidelines of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2012 in Goa. The Kamasutra 3D – Photo Shoot Video with Sherlyn Chopra was revealed on 19 January 2013.
Rupesh Paul said:"3D appears the best format to portray classic erotica, but it was hardly experimented till recently. It had remained as a tool to give the biggest jolt in horror movies. Nobody predicted that the Chinese stereoscopic porn would be a major hit. In fact, it out grossed 3D film Avatar. In the film, we are trying to give an extra dimension to the sexual positions described in the ancient treatise on the art of love." Later in June 2016 he went against this and stated: "My film was mistaken as an erotica but it is a war film."
