KIST-FM signed on in 1998 as KLDZ, a commercial oldies music radio station. In 2000, the format was changed to commercial Top 40 music under the KIST-FM calls and branding of "KISS-FM".
On September 8, 2004, the format was changed to a commercial alternative rock music format under the branding "FM 107.7".
On January 16, 2007, the format was changed to Regional Mexican under the branding of "Radio Bronco".
On December 15, 2009, KIST-FM changed their call letters to KQIE.
On February 10, 2010, KQIE changed their call letters back to KIST-FM.
