The RheinStars Köln are a professional basketball club based in Cologne, Germany.
The RheinStars' predecessor club were the Köln 99ers, previously known as, RheinEnergie Köln, from 2001-2007, (often RE Köln or REK) that had played in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). Their colors were red and white, and their home arena was the GEW Energy Dome.
In 2013, the Köln 99ers were re-launched in the Oberliga (6th division) with the new name of Köln RheinStars.
Since 2015, they play in the ProA, Germany's second division of professional basketball.
Note: Flags indicate national team eligibility at FIBA sanctioned events. Players may hold other non-FIBA nationality not displayed.
The team was founded 1999, as Cologne 99ers. In the Euroleague 2006-07 season, their home arena was an arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, named Philips Halle.
RheinEnergie power company supported the team until the summer of 2007, thus the team changed to its original name, Köln 99ers. On January 21, 2008, the club announced that they were insolvent.
The games against local rivals Telekom Baskets Bonn and Bayer Giants Leverkusen are among the biggest derby contests in the BBL. The games against Brose Baskets and ALBA Berlin are the top derby games in German basketball.
