He is best known for his role as Kevin in the 2015 film Paper Planes, and also as Ricky in Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016), the highest-grossing New Zealand film in history.
Dennison is from Naenae, Lower Hutt. He is the second youngest of four children in a Māori family. He has a twin brother. He attends Hutt International Boys' School.
He was cast in his first film, Shopping (2013), after a casting session held at his school. He followed this with the Australian film Paper Planes (2015).
