Julia Helen Banks is an Australian politician. She is the member for Chisholm in the Australian House of Representatives. She is a member of the Liberal Party of Australia and succeeded the previous member, Labor's Anna Burke, at the 2016 federal election, where Banks was the only government candidate in the nation to win an opposition seat.
Banks was born and raised in Melbourne. Her parents are both of Greek heritage and her father migrated to Australia as a 15-year-old boy. She studied Law and Arts at Monash University. She has graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and held senior positions at George Weston Foods prior to her election. She has also been a corporate executive for Kraft Foods and GlaxoSmithKline, a member of the Advisory Council on Intellectual Property and director of the Australian Made company. Shortly after her election to parliament she confirmed to SameSame that she supports the legalisation of marriage equality.
