The MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (2008) was the third edition of The MLA Style Manual, an academic style guide published by the Modern Language Association of America since 1985. It was used for scholarship in the humanities, especially in English studies, modern languages and literatures, comparative literature, literary criticism, media studies, cultural studies, and related disciplines.
The Manual was one of two official publications from the MLA. Its audience was primarily graduate students, academic scholars, professors, professional writers, and editors, while MLA Handbook is aimed at secondary and post-secondary students and their teachers.
The MLA Style Manual went out of print on 1 September 2016. As of April 2017, the organization claims to be "developing additional publications to address the professional needs of scholars."
