Joseph D’Aleo is a Certified Consultant meteorologist and the first Director of Meteorology at The Weather Channel. He was chairman of the American Meteorological Society's Committee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting. D’Aleo was the founder and is the Executive Director at Icecap website. D'Aleo has been a contributing meteorologist to the Old Farmer's Almanac in which he predicted in 2008 that the earth had entered a period of global cooling. D'Aleo is currently a meteorologist at Weatherbell Analytics.
D'Aleo is a signatory to the Cornwall Alliance's "Evangelical Declaration on Global Warming". The declaration states:
"We believe Earth and its ecosystems — created by God’s intelligent design and infinite power and sustained by His faithful providence — are robust, resilient, self-regulating, and self-correcting, admirably suited for human flourishing, and displaying His glory. Earth's climate system is no exception."
Joseph D’Aleo is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, from which he received B.S. and M.S. degrees. He was a doctoral student in Air Resources at New York University, where he completed everything except his dissertation.
D’Aleo was a professor of Meteorology and Climatology at Lyndon State College. He was awarded an honorary PhD by Lyndon State College for his "accomplishments as an educator and a pioneer in the field of broadcast meteorology"
D'Aleo has been a professional meteorologist for over 30 years. He was the first Director of Meteorology at the Weather Channel on cable TV, was Chief Meteorologist at Weather Services International Corporation, and was Senior Editor of “Dr. Dewpoint” for WSI’s Intellicast.com web site. He has also taught Meteorology at Lyndon State College in Vermont. He is a contributing author to the Non-Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) and was on the research and writing team of the Independent Summary for Policymakers (ISPM).
He has also served as chairman of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Committee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting; is a member of the AMS Council; is a fellow of the AMS; and has been elected a Councilor for the AMS. A Certified Consulting Meteorologist, he has co-chaired national conferences for both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.
