Jhajha is a town and a notified area in Jamui district in the Indian state of Bihar.It lies in the southern part of Bihar very close to the Jharkhand Border. It falls on the Howrah -Mughalsarai main line about halfway between Madhupur Junction and Kiul Junction.
As of the[update] 2011 Indian census, Jhajha city has 7,223 houses with population of 40,646 of which 21,406 are males while 19,240 are females. The population of children with ages of 0-6 is 5736 which is 14.11% of total population of Jhajha town. In Jhajha, Female Sex Ratio is of 899 against state average of 918. Moreover, Child Sex Ratio in Jhajha is around 954 compared to Bihar state average of 935. Literacy rate of Jhajha city is 79.13% higher than state average of 61.80%. In Jhajha, Male literacy is around 87.37% while female literacy rate is 69.87%.Schedule Caste (SC) constitutes 13.65% while Schedule Tribe (ST) were 0.98% of total population in Jhajha city.Out of total population, 13,785 were engaged in work or business activity. Of this 9,971 were males while 3,814 were females. In census survey, worker is defined as person who does business, job, service, and cultivator and labour activity. Jhajha has fantastic connection of railway to major cities of India. Jhajha railway station is endowed with beautiful sceneries due to the green mountains nearby. Jhajha station is the southern end of eastern central railway of Indian railway situated on Delhi Howrah main line. It also has good connection by roadways to nearby cities through SH18. It has two bus stands from where buses and auto are available for nearby places like Gidhaur, Khuriparas, Sono, Borba, Belhar etc. Small vehicles are available for travelling to villages near the cities. Rickshaw and auto rickshaw is also part of transportation for small distances.
Jhajha has one degree college, four higher secondary schools, Seven high schools, three middle schools and number of primary schools. St. Joseph's school is best school in the city providing quality education starting from nursery to class ten which is a single school affiliated to ICSE New Delhi in Jamui district. Sardonyx school which has recently got affiliation from CBSE New Delhi is also supporting to education system of the city.The City also has Jhajha Public School which is an English-medium school. It is located in the heart of Jhajha, and providing education from nursery to class 6th. This is only school which provide martial art classes music class, dance classes, and smart classes also. Mahila College, Jhajha is the only girls' college in the entire Jamui district.A new Kendriya Vidyalaya has been granted by HRD department of Government of India by the efforts of Jamui MP.Chirag Paswan. Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya has also been established in 2010 in Simultala which falls under Jhajha Block.
