Jayne Brook (born September 16, 1960) is an American actress, best known for her role as Dr. Diane Grad on the medical drama Chicago Hope. She was a series regular from the show's first to fifth season.
Brook was born Jane Anderson in Northbrook, Illinois. She graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 1978 at the age of 17. She then went on to attend Duke University on scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in 1982. Brook is married to actor and director John Terlesky. They have two daughters, Alexandra Sophia Terlesky and Annaliese Marie Terlesky.
Her first acting role was in the film Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in 1987. During the late 1980s, she worked for a while in Great Britain, appearing with Tom Conti and John Standing in The Old Boy Network, a single season ITV comedy series about three spies (an ex-MI5 agent, an ex-MI5 traitor who had been working for the KGB, and an ex-CIA officer) who set up as private investigators after the end of the Cold War.
Brook went on to appear in larger roles, first as Carolyn in the 1991 film Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, a starring role in the spring 1993 ABC network version of Sirens, a guest star for a three-episode arc of L.A. Law and in the 1995 film Bye Bye Love, with Paul Reiser. She also had a small part as a child's mother in Kindergarten Cop (1990). She had a major role in My Mother, the Spy (2000).
Since leaving Chicago Hope in 1999, Brook has appeared as a regular and guest star on such series as Sports Night, The District, John Doe, as Paul Lewiston's drug addicted daughter on Boston Legal, Eli Stone, and Grey's Anatomy. She has appeared in recent advertisements for Excedrin brand headache medicine and DirecTV satellite television service. In 2007, she appeared as a publisher on the CBS television series NCIS (episode 90, "Cover Story"). In so doing, this reunited her with her former Chicago Hope co-star, Mark Harmon. In the fall 2008 season of Private Practice, Brook began a recurring role as a Doctor Without Borders physician and love interest of Dr. Pete Wilder (played by Tim Daly).
