Jason Henry Dawe (born 1967 in Cornwall) is an English motoring journalist, car enthusiast, presenter and television personality. He presented the first series of Top Gear in 2002 with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, before being axed in 2003 to be replaced by more popular presenter James May. He took a three-year sabbatical from presenting and, in 2005, began presenting Used Car Roadshow. His new programme was a complete failure and was cancelled two years later in 2007. He failed to get a presenting role in future productions, and has since gone back to normal life in journalism.
Born and raised in Cornwall, England, Dawe worked at auto dealerships and as a motoring industry trainer.
Dawe is a regular columnist in The Sunday Times motoring section, where he has written extensively about used cars. Together with Nick Rufford of The Sunday Times he has also made many video broadcasts of car reviews. He writes for many other motoring magazines and is a regular contributor to radio and TV shows as a motoring expert.
Dawe became a presenter on the rebooted series of Top Gear, which began broadcasting in October 2002, with him hosting alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. James May was initially approached to present the show, but declined, so Dawe was confirmed as the third presenter. The segment Dawe presented was very disliked by viewers, leading to a drop in ratings. May later saw the revamped Top Gear, and asked Clarkson to begin presenting the series, which lead to Dawe's departure.
Dawe has co-hosted the Used Car Roadshow with Penny Mallory, broadcast on ITV4's Men & Motors.
