Jarbidge Ranger District

The Jarbidge Ranger District is a 243,907-acre (98,706 ha) ranger district within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It is located in northern Elko County, Nevada, United States, directly adjacent to the Mountain City Ranger District. The town of Jarbidge is contained within the district.

The district encompasses the central Jarbidge Mountains and various subsidiary ranges such as the Marys River Range, Fox Creek Range and Elk Mountains. It also contains the Jarbidge Wilderness. The headwaters of the Jarbidge River, Marys River and Salmon Falls Creek lie within the district. Two small lakes, Jarbidge Lake and Emerald Lake, are also located in the district. Elevations range from 6,000 feet (1,800 m) in the valleys to the Jarbidge Mountain range high point, Matterhorn Peak, at 10,839 feet (3,304 m). The area provides a wide range of temperature, vegetation, and recreational opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Visitors can enjoy quiet campgrounds, hunting, stream fishing, or one of the least-used wilderness areas in the nation. Wildflower viewing is also popular, particularly in Copper Basin along the border with the Mountain City Ranger District.
