Jane Dodds is the Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, having been elected in 2017. Dodds has contested elections for the Welsh Liberal Democrats for the area of Montgomeryshire, contesting both the Westminster seat and the Assembly Seat.

Dodds was born and raised in Wrexham, North Wales and speaks fluent Welsh. She studied at Cardiff University and has since trained to be a social worker. Dodds has worked in a number of local authorities, as well as having lead the Children's Section of the Refugee Council.

Dodds is married to Patrick, and has two children, who she lives with in Welshpool.

Dodds had previously been a councillor in Richmond upon Thames. She was elected as one of three councillors in the North Richmond ward in 2006.. Having lost her seat in 2010, she was a by-election candidate for the same ward in May 2012 where it was reported that she was the victim of false leaflets produced in her name.

In 2015 and 2017, she stood in the former Lib Dem seat of Montgomeryshire which was held by the party (most recently) from 1983 to 2010 by Alex Carlile and then Lembit Öpik. She contested the corresponding Welsh Assembly constituency of Montgomeryshire in 2016. Dodds and the Welsh Liberal Democrats came second on all three occasions, with the Welsh Conservative candidate being elected each time.
