Jaime R. Harrison (born 1975 or 1976) is an American political operative. He is the Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party.
From Orangeburg, South Carolina, Harrison was born to a single teenage mother and raised by his mother and his grandparents. Jaime did not allow the challenges he faced to stop him from pushing forward. In 1994, he was selected to the prestigous United States Senate Youth Program. He graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School,Yale University, and Georgetown University Law Center.
Harrison became involved in politics, working for Jim Clyburn as his floor director of operations while Clyburn was the Majority Whip of the United States House of Representatives. He also works as a lobbyist for the Podesta Group. Harrison served as executive director of the House Democratic Caucus and the Vice Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party.
In May 2013, Harrison became the first African American to chair the South Carolina Democratic Party.
After the 2016 elections, Harrison declared his candidacy for Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in the February 2017 election. He defended his eight-year record at the Podesta Group, saying, "It's how I pay back the $160,000 of student loan debt." Harrison had a diverse set of clients at the Podesta Group, including banks such as Bank of America and Wells Fargo, financial giants Berkshire Hathaway and Avenue Capital Management, pharmaceutical companies Merck and Amylin, casinos such as Caesars and Harrah's; the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity; Walmart, General Motors, Google, and Lockheed Martin.
