Jackson Township was organized in 1817.
According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 28.33 square miles (73.4 km2), of which 27.98 square miles (72.5 km2) (or 98.76%) is land and 0.35 square miles (0.91 km2) (or 1.24%) is water. Lakes in this township include Hi-Way Springs. The streams of Auburn Brook, Coon Creek, Crietz Creek, Horn Creek, Lick Branch, Pinhook Drain, Pronghorn Run, Springs Run and Symonds Creek run through this township.
