Iris danfordiae (dwarf iris or Danford iris) is a bulbous perennial, in the species in the genus Iris, it is also in the subgenus of Hermodactyloides and section reticulatae.
This species was introduced from Turkey in 1876 by Mrs C. G. Danford (an English plant hunter of the Asia minor regions).
Iris danfordiae is an accepted name by the RHS.
Iris danfordiae leaves grows up to 45 cm high. The flower is about 10 - 15 cm tall. It is a bulbous perennial that blooms in early spring, normally January.
It has bright yellow, sweet scented flowers.
Once the bulb has been planted, it can take many years to reach flowering size. Also it has the habit of the main bulb splitting into many bulblets, that can take many years to reach flowering size.
It is hardy to USDA Zone: 5 - 9.
