The Ilma University formerly (before known as) Institute of Business & Technology (IBT) was set up in 2001 in the private sector by the Global Education Consultants Society (GEC) to promote higher education vital for Pakistan`s socio-economic progress. Later it became a degree awarding institute through the Act of Assembly, Government of Sindh in 2004 and by the approval granted by the Higher Education Commission. Since then IBT has been providing under-graduate and graduate programs in the faculties of Management & Social Sciences, Computer Science & Information Technology, and Media Sciences. Today, with more than 12-year history of serving the academic and business communities, IBT has reached at a stage whereon it has 1500 odd alumni serving the big multinational companies, local private sector organizations, government sector departments and NGOs.
In the intervening period, IBT built its academic, managerial and infrastructural capacity manifold and achieved unprecedented successes. Lately, it has further diversified its offerings adding the programs of fashion and textile designing, and by stretching towards its upper limit it has introduced PhD degree programs in Management Sciences and Computing. Besides, recognizing its growing academic and managerial capacity, HEC has approved Associate Degree and Distance Learning Programs for the IBT. Associate Degree, recently introduced by the HEC is equivalent to BA/BSc (Pass) degree and holder of the degree is recognized as a simple graduate. Distance learning program is introduced by the HEC to enhance the quality of education being pursued through private candidature mode. On the quality assurance horizon, IBT traveled even faster during this period. Its quality assurance mechanism has been ranked at the highest level by the Government of Sindh and the Higher Education Commission both. The former has been pleased to assign it the highest 6 star ranking and the latter has placed it in the prestigious `W` category. On the accreditation front, IBT has distinguished itself along with only the few higher education institutions across the country who have got their management sciences and computer science programs accredited by the respective accreditation agencies. This higher place the IBT is currently perching along the quality ladder offers the factual potential to make your degree distinguished among your compatriots.
IBT is not for profit organization by its roots nor does it accept donations from the outside donors. Notwithstanding, it is proud of its unique heritage of serving the indigent students. It has made available scholarships under 11 various heads whom almost 80% of our students make avail of with an up to 100% fee relief. Despite its financial constraints, it has been expanding its infrastructure to cater to the needs of the ever increasing size of the student body. As a token of encouragement to the management of the IBT engaged in noble cause, the then Provincial Minister of Education of Sindh Dr. Hameeda Khoro was pleased to inaugurate the east wing of the building inducted to expand the Institute building in 2005 By the same token, His Excellency Mr Shaukat Aziz, the then Prime Minister of Pakistan laid foundation of the west wing of the building in 2006.
