Ian Axton


Ian Axton (born 1970) is a British television newsreader, best known for his roles with ITV News West Country.

Before his career in television, Ian worked in commercial radio and ran a company which operated a number of stations along the south coast. Axton has also owned two commercial radio stations, Andover Sound in North West Hampshire and Newbury Sound in West Berkshire. They were sold on 19 August 2011 to Celador Radio Broadcasting.

In 2007, Axton presented ITN programmes ITV News London and the ITV News at 5:30, both broadcast on ITV. Non-news TV credits include The Boat Show for ITV4, as well as The People's Millions and Climate Change, Make A Difference for ITV.

From 2007 until 2009, Axton was the main presenter of ITV News Meridian alongside co-presenter Sangeeta Bhabra in the south-east region of ITV Meridian. He was also a producer for the programme.

Following the departure of Steve Scott in 2010, Axton joined ITV News West Country as a main presenter. He co-presented the programme with Vanessa Cuddeford from 2010 until 2013 and Kylie Pentelow from 2013 until 2017.

Axton was appointed Head of News for ITV West Country and left his on-screen role as co-presenter of ITV News West Country in January 2017.

In his early career, Axton won the BT Southern News "Broadcaster of the Year" award. In 2004, he won a Royal Television Society Award for his series Meridian Missing.
