Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan, with three wins each, have more Best Actress wins than any other actress. Three actresses: Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have two wins. Rani Mukerji have won the award in consecutive three years (2005-2007).

Actresses who have won both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards include Rani Mukerji, Anushka Sharma, Tabu, Kangana Ranaut and Priyanka Chopra. Rani Mukerji is the first and only actress to win both these awards in the same year.

There has been only one tie in the history of this category. This occurred in 2010 when Kareena Kapoor and Vidya Balan were both given the award.

Deepika Padukone holds the record for most nominations in the Best Actress category, with 9, followed by Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji and Priyanka Chopra (7). Rani Mukerji is the overall most-nominated performer in the female acting categories, with 10 nominations overall. Rani Mukerji holds the record for most consecutive years(five) nominations with 6 between 2003 and 2007 winning three times in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
