Highbury is a suburb of Palmerston North, New Zealand. The suburb is located northwest of Palmerston North Central (CBD). The area has the characteristics of a suburban area and had a resident population of 3,240 (2001).[1]

The suburb of Highbury has had the most gang-related, violent crime incidents (including shootings, serious assaults and stabbings) nationwide in the past decade. Members of the Highbury community have attempted to alleviate the negative aspects and perceptions of the suburb, but it's violent past has made it known to other residents of Palmerston North as the most dangerous part of the city.
The main event which led to a series of violent offenses occurred on Waitangi Day, 2002. A Black-Power "prospect", aged 16, was fatally shot by a member of the Mongrel Mob gang. There have been numerous serious assaults since this incident, some of which have reached national newspapers and television broadcasts.
