Hélder Fragueiro Antunes (born 6 July 1963; Angra do Heroísmo, Azores) is a Portuguese-American executive, engineer, and former racecar driver. His car racing career from in the 1980s and '90s made him one of the preeminent open road racers at the time. Antunes currently serves as Cisco Systems's Senior Director of Corporate Strategic Innovation, where he leads Cisco's innovation and corporate strategy, and as a general partner at Pereira Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm.
Dubbed by PortugalGlobal Magazine as "the perfect example of Portuguese success in the global era", Antunes is actively involved in Portuguese and Azorean economic and political affairs. Tying Portuguese businesses and organizations to international funding and representation, Antunes is a counselor to the Rede Prestige Açores, a business institution operated by Autonomous Government of the Azores, and a frequent consultant to the Government of the Portuguese Republic.
As of November 2015, Antunes serves as the Chairman of the Board of the OpenFog Consortium, and, as of August 2016, as the Chairman of the Board of Star Division, S. A., a green tech company.
Hélder Manuel da Terra Fragueiro Marques Antunes was born on 6 July 1963, in Angra do Heroísmo (Nossa Senhora da Conceição), Terceira Island, Azores, to Armando Manuel Marques Antunes, an avionics and aerospace scientist from Torres Novas, and Carolina Bettencourt de Vasconcelos da Terra Fragueiro (Horta, Faial, 2 February 1937 - San Jose, California, 26 January 2014), a member of the Bettencourt family. Through his mother, Antunes is a descendant of Flemish explorers Willem van der Haegen and Josse van Huerter and related to 19th century Portuguese prime-minister, Ernesto Hintze Ribeiro.RTP journalist Pedro Bicudo described Antunes's parents as a "well-known couple in the Azores", for his mother's prominent family background and his father's prominence in aviation and as a scout for Sporting CP.
