"Hearts Still Beating" is the eighth episode of the seventh season and 91st episode overall of the post-apocalyptic horror television series The Walking Dead, which aired on AMC on December 11, 2016. The episode was written by Matthew Negrate and Channing Powell, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis.
The episode focuses on Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) unwelcome and unexpected visit to Alexandria as other members scavenge for supplies. With tensions high, things quickly spin out of control. It features Austin Nichols' final regular appearance as Spencer Monroe. His death was adapted from "Volume 19", "Issue #111" of the comic book series.
At the Hilltop, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) pays her respects at Glenn's grave and assumes her post at the front gate. Gregory (Xander Berkeley) approaches and warns her not to let her popularity with the Hilltop residents get to her head. In their trailer, Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) lies to Maggie about the whereabouts of Jesus (Tom Payne), as Maggie wants his help in getting revenge on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
