Hamilton Township is a civil township of Clare County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the township population was 1,829.
Hamilton Township is located in eastern Clare County and is bordered by Gladwin County to the east. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.4 square miles (94.2 km2), of which 35.9 square miles (92.9 km2) is land and 0.50 square miles (1.3 km2), or 1.35%, is water.
Hayes Township was organized in 1835 by a division of Hayes Township.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,988 people, 812 households, and 586 families residing in the township. The population density was 55.3 per square mile (21.4/km²). There were 1,650 housing units at an average density of 45.9 per square mile (17.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.23% White, 0.15% African American, 0.91% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.45% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.11% of the population.
There were 812 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% were non-families. 24.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.86.
