Gruen Planet is an Australian television program focusing on advertising and public relations, which debuted on ABC TV on 28 September 2011. It is a spin-off of The Gruen Transfer, which ran for four seasons from 2008 to 2011 and was only concerned with advertising. The program is hosted by Wil Anderson with a panel of advertising industry experts (Wil Anderson is joined weekly by panellists Russel Howcroft of Network Ten and Todd Sampson of Leo Burnett) and is produced by Andrew Denton's production company, Zapruder's Other Films.
The title refers to the Gruen transfer, the response to designed disorientation cues in retail environments.Gruen Planet, having a broader landspace, replaced The Gruen Transfer in 2011. The first episode of the first series premiered on 28 September 2011 with 1.138 million viewers, rating fourth viewed show of the week. The second series began airing on 22 August 2012. The third series started airing on 11 September 2013. It was confirmed on November 12, 2014 that a fourth series of Gruen Planet would be aired, as part of ABC's 2015 line-up, despite taking a hiatus in 2014. It was later clarified that the 'Gruen Planet' moniker would be retired, and that the 2015 episodes would form a new show, simply titled Gruen. Despite the new name, there is no difference between the two programs.
