Greensborough Highway runs from Bell Street at its southern point along as Rosanna Road up to the Upper Heidelberg / Lower Plenty Road junction where it reverts to through to Diamond Creek Rd at its northern point. It intersects along the way with the end of the Metropolitan Ring Road.
The route was originally designated in the 1969 Melbourne Transportation Plan as the F18 Freeway, extending further than Diamond Creek Road to finish at Ryans Road, Diamond Creek, and at the southern end extending past Lower Plenty Rd to link up with the Eastern Freeway between Bullen Road and Burke Road, via the Banyule Flats Reserve.
