Greenfield Community College is a secondary school on the outskirts of Newton Aycliffe. It was opened in 1974 and it has been visited by Tony Blair. It was previously awarded specialist status as an Arts and Science College.

Greenfield provides a range of opportunities in and out of the classroom. The strength of the provision was noted by OFSTED, who rated the school as GOOD in October 2012. The school also has Rights Respecting Schools status from UNICEF, the International Schools Award from the British Council, and anti-bullying accreditation from NSPCC and Childline. Greenfield has a Community Arts Centre on site and is a founder member of The Asset Schools.

In 2015, the school merged with another local school Sunnydale Comprehensive in nearby Shildon.

In May 2017, Oftsed visited the school and rated the school as 'Requires Improvement' They found the schools’ merger in 2015 had been “handled badly”, leading to a decline in standards of achievement in 2015 and 2016 in almost all year groups.

Teaching, learning and assessments were also found to vary across subjects and year groups while attendance, though rising, was below the national average.
