The 18th Dáil was elected at the 1965 general election on 7 April 1965 and first met on 21 April when the 11th Government of Ireland was appointed. The 18th Dáil lasted for 1,233 days.

The 11th Government of Ireland (21 April 1965 – 10 November 1966) was formed by the Fianna Fáil party.

The Department of Labour was created in July 1966.

The 12th Government of Ireland (10 November 1966 – 2 July 1969) was formed by the Fianna Fáil party with Jack Lynch as Taoiseach following the resignation of Seán Lemass.
