In the 2006 state assembly elections, Chittaranjan Mandal of RSP won the Gosaba (SC) seat defeating his nearest rival Jayanta Naskar of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Ganesh Mondal of RSP won the seat from 1977 to 2001, defeating Sujit Pramanick of Trinamool Congress/ Congress in 2001and 1996, Jitendranath Gayen of Congress in 1991, Pramila Biswas of Congress in 1987,Sandhyakar Mondal of Congress in 1982and Paresh Baidya of Congress in 1977.
