Glen Elder is a city in Mitchell County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 445.
Glen Elder was originally known as West Hampton, and under the latter name was laid out and platted in 1871 by promoters who built a large gristmill at the site. The town later adopted the name Glen Elder when the post office of that name was moved there from its former location a half mile north. Glen Elder was named from a grove of box elder trees.
Glen Elder is located at 39°29′59″N 98°18′27″W / 39.499714°N 98.307509°W (39.499714, -98.307509). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.44 square miles (1.14 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 445 people, 193 households, and 129 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,011.4 inhabitants per square mile (390.5/km2).
