Gilmore Township is a civil township of Benzie County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 821 at the 2010 census. The township is "L"-shaped, with the city of Frankfort and village of Elberta located along Lake Michigan in the western portion of the township. The remainder of the township forms a thin slice between Crystal Lake Township to the north and Blaine Township to the south.
Gilmore Township was organized in 1867.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 7.5 square miles (19.5 km2), of which 7.1 square miles (18.5 km2) is land and 0.39 square miles (1.0 km2), or 4.89%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 850 people, 341 households, and 236 families residing in the township. The population density was 117.2 per square mile (45.3/km²). There were 439 housing units at an average density of 60.5 per square mile (23.4/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.06% White, 0.35% African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.35% from other races, and 1.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.94% of the population.
There were 341 households out of which 32.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.98.
