Gijs van Hall


Gijsbert van Hall (21 April 1904 in Amsterdam – 22 May 1977 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch politician and Mayor of Amsterdam between 1957 and 1967. His brother, Walraven van Hall, was a banker and resistance leader during the occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. Both were born into a prominent banking family in Amsterdam, with Gijs subject to infections of tuberculosis in his younger years. He joined Kean Taylor & Co. in 1928, then become Director of Labouchère and Co. in 1948. He became a senator in 1956 before being elector mayor the following year.
