George Cooper (23 June 1793 – 20 July 1859) was the first Colonial Treasurer and head of Customs of New Zealand.

Cooper was born in Ireland in 1793. He later emigrated to New South Wales to serve as the Comptroller of Customs for the colony. He moved to New Zealand in 1840, arriving aboard the HMS Herald with William Hobson, where he was appointed Colonial Treasurer. He was a witness and signatory to the Treaty of Waitangi. In 1842, he resigned from his position as Colonial Treasurer.
