GMA The Heart of Asia, abbreviated as HoA, is a programming block of GMA Network and its sister channel GMA News TV (formerly QTV/Q), which broadcast Filipino-dubbed TV series mostly from South Korea, Taiwan and China. It is also tagged as "The Home of Quality Asianovelas". Its first ever Asian drama (locally called "Asianovela") was My MVP Valentine from Taiwan.
Even before Asian dramas, Filipinos were long fans of foreign dramas. Soap operas and drama series have become a staple for daytime and primetime viewing in the Philippines. In the 1990s, Mexican telenovelas was the mania, with huge hits like Rosalinda and Marimar attracting ratings above 50%.
Asianovelas have become hits in the 2000s.The huge demand from Filipino viewers has prompted Philippine TV stations to import Taiwanese dramas. After the Taiwanese drama, Amazing Twins, the first Asian drama in the Philippines, and Meteor Garden which became phenomenal, GMA Network starts importing TV series from Taiwan in June 2003, starting with its first drama My MVP Valentine followed by The Poor Prince and Lavender which was the first Asianovela in Philippine Primetime TV. In the same year, the network introduced to Filipino viewers the South Korean dramas, as they premiered the first ever Korean drama in Philippine television, Bright Girl, followed by Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart and Endless Love II: Winter Sonata.
