Fremont County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,441. The county seat is Sidney. The county was formed in 1847 and named for the military officer John C. Fremont.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 517 square miles (1,340 km2), of which 511 square miles (1,320 km2) is land and 5.5 square miles (14 km2) (1.1%) is water.
The 2010 census recorded a population of 7,441 in the county, with a population density of 14.5599/sq mi (5.6216/km2). There were 3,431 housing units, of which 3,064 were occupied.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,010 people, 3,199 households, and 2,242 families residing in the county. The population density was 16 people per square mile (6/km²). There were 3,514 housing units at an average density of 7 per square mile (3/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 98.01% White, 0.04% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.96% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 2.17% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 3,199 households out of which 30.20% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.90% were married couples living together, 8.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.90% were non-families. 26.30% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.90% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.93.
